Scope Control is the process of effectively managing changes in project scope, then integrating those changes across the entire project through the Integrated Change Control process. It is important to understand that it is the project manager’s responsibility to discourage unnecessary scope changes. It is also important to understand that when changes are warranted, that they be made in strict accordance with the project’s scope change control process, and that the established scope baseline remains in-tact. Re-baselining scope is appropriate only in extreme situations.

Some organizations utilize a change control board (CCB) to evaluate and approve/disapprove scope change requests.
